Detailed Itinerary of the Hiking Tour along Mount Kilimanjaro

Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

This 5 Days Marangu Route Adventure begins at the Marangu Gate where you register then proceed on ascent through the lush green rainforest and thick air and exotic flora. You shall continue on hike for a period of 5 to 7 hours till you reach the first campsite, Mandara Hut (2,700 meters) where you have views of the stunning surrounding terrain landscapes. Dinner and Overnight at Mandara Hut.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Morning breakfast then proceed on trek through the rainforest gradually getting to the moorland ascending higher as the vegetation terrain gets sparse offering you the best views of the prominent Shira Plateau.

You shall proceed on hike for a period of about 6-8 hours until you reach the Horombo Hut (3,720 meters) where you acclimatize to the altitude watching Mawenzi Peak and vast Savannah beneath. Dinner and Overnight at Horombo Hut.

Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Today is Acclimatization Day and very essential for a successful Mountain Kilimanjaro ascent as you spend this Day at Horombo Hut exploring the surrounding area. While here, you can opt to go on short hike to Zebra Rock enjoying views of the scenic terrain vegetation and after go through acclimatization to prepare you for the challenges ahead before you head to the Uhuru summit. Dinner and Overnight at Kibo Hut.

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Summit

Day 4 of the 5 Days Marangu Route (Coca Cola Trail) along Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is a Night of Triumph as you embark on a challenging and rewarding hike to the summit of Uhuru.

The trek begins before sunrise after a few hours of rest at Kibo Hut and at this time the air is crisp, and the stars twinkle overhead as you get on the midnight ascent with headlamps, wearing warm clothing traversing the steep and daunting slopes to Gilman’s Point. After sometime, reach Gilman’s Point also referred to as the rim of the Kibo volcanic crater. When you reach here, enjoy panoramic views of the terrain, surrounding glaciers and the curvature of the Earth.

From Gilman’s Point, this trek gets steeper and more challenging as you navigate through the rocky and snow-covered terrain  facing effects of high altitude. Continue on hike watching the beautiful sun rise, casting hues of orange and pink across the sky an experience worth viewing.

After sometime, you shall reach the Uhuru Peak/ summit (the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro) in Tanzania. Take photos at the iconic wooden sign as well as view the snow through your glasses.

Day 5: Descent to Kibo Hut-Horombo Hut then Marangu Gate

After a well-deserved celebration at the summit, proceed on descent back to Kibo Hut which is as challenging as the ascent, with tired muscles and the effects of high altitude. On your descent view the awe-inspiring sunrise over the African plains then you get to Kibo Hut where you leave to Horombo Hut then later to Marangu Gate where you get into the car and drive off to Kilimanjaro International airport to board your flight back home.
