Detailed Itinerary Of the 14 Days Mount Rwenzori Trek Gorillas and Wildlife Safari

Day 1: Entebbe To Bwindi National Park

Arrival at the Entebbe International Airport where you are picked up by a driver guide who welcomes you warmly through a meet and greet session. After he shall brief you about the safari then later transfer you to the Western part of Uganda. En-route have lunch, views of the green terrain. The journey takes you 7 to 8 hours  and afterwards you shall reach the Park and check-in lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Buhoma Lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla Trek At Bwindi Forest National Park

14 Days Mount Rwenzori Trek, Gorillas and Wildlife SafariThe 2nd Day of the 14 Days Mountain Rwenzori Hike, Gorillas and Wildlife Safari gives you a chance to trek and watch Mountain Gorillas. Wake up early in the morning then proceed to the park headquarters for short briefing on conduct around the Mountain Gorillas.

At the park headquarters you shall be welcomed by a Park ranger guide who informs you about the rare species of Mountain Gorillas,  Bwindi Forest National Park and the various activities done in the park.

You are allocated into groups of 8 with lead park rangers who transfer you to the starting point from where you leave to enter the thick Forest to trek the Mountain Gorillas.

You shall follow varying trails in the forest for 3 to 5 hours through the thick forest. Watch monkeys, bird species along the paths then after a while, you shall meet the Gorillas and at a distance of 7 meters, quietly with a camera that has no flash take many photos to keep.

Afterwards, return to the park headquarters for your Gorillas Trekking Certificate. After here, proceed back to your lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Buhoma Lodge.

Day 3: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Delicious morning breakfast at the lodge then embark to Queen Elizabeth National Park a journey that takes you a period of 5 to 6 hours via the Ishasha Sector. View the Rwenzori Mountains at a distance and birds. Lunch is en-route then afterwards proceed to check-in lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Bush Lodge.

Day 4: Game Drive and Boat Cruise at Kazinga Channel

Wake up have breakfast then proceed to the park for a Game Drive along various tracks watching wildlife animals wander around their natural habitat. The wildlife animals include; bush buck, duiker, small antelope, elephants, buffalo, lions, etc. Break off for lunch at mid-day then continue to the Kazinga Channel.

On reaching here you are welcomed by a guide who informs you about the Kazinga Channel and the wildlife animals you can view here.

After a while at 2:30 pm, board a boat to cruise you for a period of 3 hours and you shall view schools of hippo and crocodile beneath the waters. Other wildlife animals can be seen at the shores too. Take many photos to keep with you then return to the shores then to your vehicle to transfer back to lodge for relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. Day 5: Transfer to Kilembe Town

Morning breakfast today then with your belongings transfer to Kasese with lunch en-route. The journey takes you a period of 1 hour till you reach the Kiliembe Ranger’s Post and when you get here, proceed to check-in lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Equator Snow Lodge.

Day 6: Kilembe To Kalalama Camp

On the 6th Day of the 14 Days Mountain Rwenzori Hike, Gorillas and Wildlife Safari, you meet at the Kilembe rangers post for precise conduct when hiking to the top of Mountain Rwenzori.

You are located into groups with lead park rangers then with porters, armed guides proceed to hike the Mountain from Kilembe to Kalalama Camp.

On your way, you shall have views of the  green Forest, colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and bird species. Proceed on your trek until you get to the Sine camp where you briefly stop for lunch then after proceed to Kalalama camp (3,147m) for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 7: Kalalama Camp (3.147m) To Mutinda Camp (3.688 M)

Continue trekking and you shall break precisely then proceed to the heather zone via many streams, waterfalls and green moss vegetation.

After a while, you shall reach Mutinda Camp (3.688 m) covered in the moss rocks in the afternoon. Relax, have Dinner and Overnight at Mutinda Camp.

Day 8: Mutinda Camp To Bugata Camp

The 8th Day of the 14 Days Mountain Rwenzori Hike, Gorillas and Wildlife Safari, gets you near the various peaks of Mountain Rwenzori on a trek with lead park ranger guides through rocky terrain and alpine vegetation. While on hike enjoy views of many wildlife animals i.e Rwenzori red duikers and rock hyraxes.

Continue on journey along a steep ascent till you get to view the Bugata Camp located in a scenic valley enfolded in towering cliffs. On reaching here, relax to recharge energy with a delicious meal then have Dinner and Overnight. Bugata Camp.

Day 9: Bugata Camp To Hunwick’s Camp

When finished with breakfast, proceed on hike through deviating terrain comprising of alpine meadows and rocky outcrops ascending gradually. En-route view the surrounding peaks till you reach the Bamwanjara Pass that is the highest region along the trek. You shall have views of the rugged terrain, verdant valleys and unique waterfalls. You shall approach the Bamwanjara Pass continuing through steep and more difficult trails requiring you to be focused and dedicated.

Afterwards, you shall reach Hunwick’s Camp where you have refreshments watching the sun casting a warm glow over the terrain and afterwards, relax and prepare for your hike to Mountain Rwenzori. Dinner and Overnight Hunwick’s Camp.

Day 10: Hunwick’s Camp To Margherita Camp

You continue to the Scott Elliot Pass where you shall leave to Magherita Camp which is covered with rocks offering scenic views of Mt Baker, Scott Elliot Pass and some of the Mount Stanley glaciers.

Continue hiking reaching early in the evening then have Dinner and Overnight at Magherita Camp. While here, get briefed on how to use ropes, harness, crampons, hiking shoes, ice axe for breaking axes.

Day 11: Summit Day – Margherita Peak (5,109m) And Descend To Hunwick’s Camp

Today, you shall have a challenging yet rewarding hike to Margherita Peak of Mountain Rwenzori. Get up early in the morning at mid night then have simple breakfast then proceed on hike to Margherita Peak. The hike is tough following through rock, glacier traversing using ropes and crampons and ice axes.

This hike begins at mid night gather to begin the trek to the Margherita Peak the highest point on the Mountain. Follow through steep rocks along challenging trails that are not navigable due to melted glaciers. Continue along the trails for some hours until you reach Margherita Peak. Enjoy scenic views of the surrounding and take many photos at Margherita then descend back to Hunwick’s camp for dinner and an overnight. Hunwick’s Camp.

Day 12: Descent To Kilembe
