Detailed Itinerary of the Hiking Tour

Day 1: Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba Hut

Start with transferring to the Nyakalengija patrol post where you meet the park ranger guides who brief you about the conduct while hiking the majestic Mountain Rwenzori. After precise briefing, you are allocated into groups with lead ranger guides as well as those that follow from behind as you hike to the highest point Margherita Peak along Mountain Rwenzori. The porters help you carry luggage then you start your hike to the top and en-route you shall have views of various bird species, monkeys. After a period of 5 to 6 hours, you shall reach the Nyabitaba Hut where you stop for relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. Nyabitaba Hut.

Day 2: Nyabitaba Hut to John Matte Hut

On the 2nd Day, transfer through the bamboo zone until you reach the heather zone. Follow through verdant vegetation terrain following steep ascents towards the Bigo Bog. This region includes; a vast stretch of boggy terrain enfolded by towering peaks of the Rwenzori. Continue on your hike leaving the Bog until you reach John Matte Hut. This Hut is situated in a beautiful valley surrounded by towering cliffs. Rest, Relax and have Dinner and Overnight. John Matte Hut.

Day 3: John Matte Hut to Bujuku Hut

On the 3rd Day of the 7 Days Rwenzori Trekking via Central Circuit, embark to beat two high passes i.e the Lower and Upper Bigo Bog as they offer you remarkable views of the terrain, surrounding peaks and glaciers.

You shall descend through the Bujuku Valley passing through giant lobelia and groundsels and unique plant species found only at Mountain Rwenzori.

After while, you shall get to Bujuku Hut, situated along the glacial lake where you relax and have scenic views of the terrain vegetation, peaks around you.

While here, you go through acclimatization so as to get familiar with the altitude sickness. Dinner and Overnight Bujuku Hut.

Day 4: Bujuku Hut to Elena Hut

On the 4th Day of the 7 Days Rwenzori Trekking via Central Circuit, you shall embark on trek through the groundsel vegetation along the 4km path, climbing up 4,372m  which is about 5-7 hours hike as you ascend to the highest point of the Central Circuit Route along Mountain Rwenzori at Scott Elliott Pass.

This Trek is very steep and rocky offering beautiful panoramic views from the pass making it all worthwhile. From the pass, continue to the upper Kitandara Valley via the rocky outcrops and glacial Lakes. The trail includes two leads i.e one to the Scott Eliot Pass until the Kitandara Lake and another heads to Elena Hut along a steep route. You shall continue to Elena Hut located beneath the snow line. You shall relax, have a warm meal then rest at the Elena Hut.

Day 5: Elena Hut to Margherita then to Kitandara

The 5th Day of the 7 Days Rwenzori Trekking via Central Circuit gives you a strenuous yet rewarding hike to the Margherita Peak of Mountain Rwenzori.

You shall get up early in the morning at mid night have some precise breakfast then go on a hike to the highest point in Uganda (Margherita Peak).

The Hike is challenging as you follow through rock, glacier traversing using ropes and crampons and ice axes. You do this for some hours until you reach the Margherita Peak on the 7 days Rwenzori trekking Safari. Continue till you get to the top of the peak of Mount Stanley (Magherita Peak-at 5107m).

When you get here, enjoy views of the snow, take photos then afterwards embark on descent through the Scott Elliot Pass to Kitandara Hut.

This depends on the physical fitness and strength of the group as you can skip not sleeping at Elena Hut and proceed to Kitandara Hut where you leave from the next morning to Guy Yeoman.

Day 6: Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut

Today’s trek takes you on descent through the lush vegetation at the lower slopes through the Nyamwamba Valley. You shall pass through diverse ecosystems like bamboo forests and montane rainforest as you watch many bird species and other wildlife. You shall reach the Guy Yeoman Hut after a while which is the final stopping point of the 7 Days Rwenzori Trekking Safari via the Central Circuit. Dinner and Overnight at Guy Yeoman Hut.

Day 7: Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyakalengija

On the Last Day of the 7 Days Rwenzori Trekking Tour, you shall continue on trek descending to Nyakalengija. On reaching here, reminisce about the trek then get acquainted with the sights and sounds of the green forest and later continue on journey to the Entebbe International Airport to board flight back home.
