Detailed Itinerary Of The Tour

Day 1: Arrive And Transfer To Virunga National Park

The 6 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking and Mt Nyiragongo Hike begins with arriving at the Kigali International Airport where you embark on transfer to traverse the border into the DR Congo. You shall have lunch en-route then after you clear with border documentation, you get into Goma Town where you leave from to Virunga National Park and check-in lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Mikeno Lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla Trek At Virunga National Park

Today you get to trek and watch the rare species of Mountain Gorillas in their natural forest vegetation habitat. Have early morning breakfast then proceed to the headquarters for precise briefing on conduct around the Mountain Gorillas, Virunga National Park and the various adventures done in the park. You shall be informed about the safety protocols, importance of conservation efforts.

After briefing, you are allocated into groups of 8 with lead park rangers who transfer you to enter the green forest vegetation habitat to trek Gorillas for a period of 3 to 5 hours according to the current position of the Gorillas in their natural forest habitat.

Some treks are somehow short and straightforward, while others are challenging and difficult to maneuver. After a while, you shall meet the Gorillas and stay in their presence taking many photos to keep.

After trekking the Gorillas, return to your lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Mikeno Lodge.

Day 3: Hike To Mountain Nyiragongo Volcano

On the 3rd Day of the 6 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking and Mt Nyiragongo Tour have breakfast then continue to the Kibati Patrol Station where you are briefed on conduct while hiking the Mountain Nyiragongo Volcano. After sometime, embark on trek/ hike to the top of the Mountain Volcano for a period of 6 hours depending on the physical fitness of the group.

As you hike to the summit, view the green terrain vegetation, bird species, wildlife animals etc till you reach the top of the Mountain Volcano. Porters help carry your luggage and you are protected by the ranger guards who follow you behind and are armed. After a while of 6 hours, you shall reach the  summit then take many photos of the Lava spewing out of the Caldera then as the sun sets take many photos to keep with you. Dinner and Overnight at the summit shelters.

Day 4: Descend and transfer to Kahuzi Biega

Have morning breakfast then proceed on descent to the Kibati Patrol Station where you congratulate yourselves, tip the guides, porters and later continue to your 4×4 wheel vehicle which transfer you to Kahuzi Biega National Park situated in the Southern province of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

On your way to the park, have beautiful views of the terrain landscape, bird species and lunch. After sometime, you shall reach the park and check-in lodge for relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. Coco Lodge.

Day 5: Eastern Lowland Gorilla Trek at Kahuzi Biega National Park

On the 5th Day of the 6 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking and Mt Nyiragongo Hike have breakfast then have a chance to trek and watch the rare species of the Eastern Lowland Gorillas in their natural forest vegetation habitat.

Proceed to the park headquarters for short briefing on conduct around the Eastern Lowland Gorillas as you meet the park ranger guide who briefs and takes you through the dos and Don’ts around the Eastern Lowland Gorillas.

After the briefing session, he shall distribute you into groups of 8 with lead park ranger guides who lead you into the green forest to trek the Gorillas for a period of 3 to 5 hours depending on current location of the Gorillas then later, you shall meet them and stay in their presence taking various photos to keep.

You shall realize that the Eastern Lowland Gorillas are the same as Mountain Gorillas although with differing features that make them stand out. The features include nose, ears, arms, fur color etc

After being in their presence and taking photos, you shall transfer to the park headquarters for your Trekking Certificate to take back home with you. Return to your lodge for relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. Coco Lodge.

Day 6: Depart to Goma International Airport

The final Day of the 6 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking and Mt Nyiragongo Hike, embark on departure to the Goma International airport to Board your Flight back home.
